class reflection eoto

 The Pro slavery teachers focused their lecture on highlighting events instead of ideals. They taught us that pro-slavery is willing to go as far as violence, and dehumanizing, as well as changing the law & breaking the law. Pro slavery in the south was very prominent, they went as far as war to keep slavery in the south. The decided they wouldn't follow the rules of the north and wanted to separate themselves from any ties with the north. Slavery in the south were very violent and careless, they went about drastic measures to make sure chains In the south would be something that always existed. they came up with the fugitive slave law.

The Anti-slavery teachers recitation was based on the efforts to escape slavery. teaching us about prominent events such as the Underground Railroad, which was neither actually underground or a railroad, they taught us that it freed many many slaves on the strength of the 1sacrifice of many prolific figures such as William Still, Harriet Tubman, and Frederick Douglass.  The Underground Railroad was a testament to the spirit of those who wanted to be free, the story of the Underground Railroad spoke to the power of the enduring quests of liberty.  Anti slavery teachers also lectured about newspapers and books written by abolitionist and former slaves. They wanted to highlight this because they wanted to talk about people outside of slavery who DID CARE, and the power that former slaves gained now from education. We learned about the anti slavery society, which was the first national organization of its kind, It pushed for the immediate ablolition of slavery in the states. they got slavery abolished in the British colonies, signed anti slavery petitions, put out journals & books, sent lectures to the north and overseas to speak on anti-slavery abroad. They were constantly sought as radicals and attacked by white mobs, they didn't let this stop them. They were won of the first orgs. to use print media, the spread their word through newspaper and journals as well as famous books.  This society laid down the pathway for future civil rights movements, many members of the society fought for civil rights and women's suffrage.

We learned about slave rebellions, two famous ones, the natturner rebellion, whom began his revolt on august 21st 1831, he started off killing his master, him and seven other slaves turned into 75 followers, who came together over two days and two nights to kill over 60 white people in the timespan of their revolt. Nat turner believed he was sent by god to do so. We learned about the Haitian revolution as well. a rebellion that became a complex war, planned and organized august 22nd 1791. This rebellion involved both Spanish and British forces.. Haiti ended up declaring their independence in 1804

Overall my take from the lesson was about the oppressed and the oppressors and about the conflicting concepts of the never-ending  efforts of abolishing slavery and the never-ending efforts of keeping slavery as long as possible. We live in a much better time today, although the measures that these people went about that prevented us from coming to the day we know now is terrible.
