Supreme Court Reflection Blog

Petitions to the Supreme Court arrive in thousands, The court accepts very few of the 7000 cases per year that they receive. Year after year 9 Supreme Court justices review these petitions in private chambers individually and give their opinion on whether the case should be taken. Supreme Court justices are maybe the single 9 most influential people in the legal system.

They're appointed by the president and

called upon to draw the boundaries of the law, although the most important thing about the Supreme Court Justices is that regardless of their power,  they cannot rule something unconstitutional. What those people wrote on the constitution over 200 years ago still guides the most prestigious judicial powers of the United States until this day.  Their commitment to the constitution earned their respect among American citizenship and their ability to be saw as the co-equal of the government. There's been over 100 different justices, whom served an average of 16 years, some serving twice as long, all of which strictly abiding by the post-civil war constitution.

I Find it most surprising not only how humane these Justices are even though they hold so much power, but that even if the justices see something they do not agree with, such as a problem in a lower court, they cannot jump in. Justices have to wait for a problem to be brought to them. Cases have to be presented to the justices who then have to come to a majority vote whether it should be taken or not.
One justice almost has no individual say so in whether a case is brought into the Supreme Court, he or she has to depend on the 8 other justices for a case to be accepted, eliminating a single justices influence. When a case is accepted, one justice on the majority side has to write a document explaining the legal reasons on why that was the outcome. This prevents the justices colluding to take a case illegally for their personal benefit.

People see in the constitution a policy to see through today's politics. with the knowledge of this, the Supreme Court runs on the good faith and willingness of the previous hundred justices and the trust of the American people.
